Retrograde Planets 2027
In plain English A planet is retrograde when it seems to move backward in the sky. This page lists every retrograde that happens in 2027, to the minute.
Ten retrograde periods touch 2027: Mercury three times, Uranus twice, and Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune and Pluto once each. Venus does not station retrograde in 2027. The table gives every station in US Central and UTC.
Every retrograde that touches 2027

Each row shows the station in US Central time (CST or CDT), in UTC, and where in the zodiac the planet stood. Periods that began in 2026 or end in 2028 are included, with their real dates. The Mercury periods have their own page with shadow dates: Mercury retrograde 2027.
How much of the year each planet spends going backward
In plain Englishthe outer planets spend about half of every year retrograde, so this is normal, not a warning.
| Planet | Days in 2027 | Retrograde periods |
|---|---|---|
| Uranus | 146 | 2 |
| Jupiter | 102 | 1 |
| Mars | 81 | 1 |
| Mercury | 67 | 3 |
| Pluto | 163 | 1 |
| Neptune | 159 | 1 |
| Saturn | 136 | 1 |
The slower a planet is, the longer its retrograde. Venus is missing from the table because it has no retrograde period in 2027. The Sun and Moon never go retrograde.
How to read the table
In plain Englishthe first time is when the planet seems to stop and turn backward, and the second is when it turns forward again.
The degree and sign show where the planet stood at each turn. A planet often turns direct a few degrees earlier in the zodiac than it turned retrograde, so it covers the same stretch of sky three times: forward, backward, forward. Astrologers care most about whether that stretch touches a planet or point in your own chart.
What each retrograde is about
In plain Englisheach planet covers a different part of life, so each retrograde asks you to review something different.
Mars is energy and action, so a Mars retrograde (Jan 10 to Apr 1, from Virgo into Leo) is a poor stretch for picking fights and a good one for finishing old projects. Jupiter is growth and belief, and it turns direct in Leo on Apr 12. Saturn, in Aries all year, is structure and responsibility, and its retrograde from Aug 9 to Dec 23 invites a review of commitments. Uranus (change), Neptune (ideals) and Pluto (power) move so slowly that their retrogrades are background weather: you feel them mostly if they touch a planet in your own chart.
Astrologers split on how much a retrograde matters for everyone. The tradition is mostly about slowing down and rechecking, and there is no scientific evidence of a measurable effect. To see where each planet is in your own chart, use the birth chart calculator, and check today’s sky for what is retrograde right now. The sign changes of every planet are on the 2027 sign changes page.
Questions people ask
- Which planets are retrograde in 2027?
- Mercury (three times), Mars (Jan 10 to Apr 1), Jupiter (until Apr 12), Pluto, Neptune, Saturn and Uranus. Venus does not go retrograde in 2027.
- When is Saturn retrograde in 2027?
- Saturn stations retrograde on Aug 9, 2027 at 27°52′ Aries and stations direct on Dec 23, 2027 at 21°01′ Aries.
- Is a retrograde planet really moving backward?
- No. Every planet keeps moving forward around the Sun. A retrograde is the view from Earth, which passes or is passed by the other planet and makes it seem to reverse for a while.
