Bill Gates

Three placements worth noticing

In plain Englishthe three parts of Bill Gates’s chart that fit Bill’s public work best. Astrology describes resemblances, not causes.

Sun in Scorpio

Scorpio goes deep and stays there. Gates was a programmer first: he wrote early software with Paul Allen at the start of Microsoft, and he kept reading technical material closely long after he ran the company, including the “Think Weeks” he spent reading alone. That is a Scorpio Sun in a sentence: focus other people find hard to believe.

The trap is the grip. Scorpio can hold a position after the evidence has moved and press a point past the end of the meeting. The gift shows in the foundation years, when the same stubbornness went into one disease at a time.

Mercury in Libra

Mercury is the mind, and Libra is the sign of weighing both sides. The early Microsoft agreement with IBM over the PC operating system is the textbook example: Microsoft supplied the software but kept the right to license it to other makers, which changed the industry. A Libra Mercury sees the shape of an agreement and who else might sit at the table.

The trap is the long weigh-in. Libra can hold a decision open while it balances every angle, and sound reasonable the whole time. The gift is the deal that looks small on day one and large ten years later.

Venus conjunct Saturn

Venus is what a chart values, and Saturn is what it commits to for the long haul. Together in Scorpio, they read as values held seriously and for years. The Gates Foundation’s work on vaccines and global health, and the long effort against diseases like polio and malaria, is the sort of slow project that suits the pairing.

The trap is austerity. Venus with Saturn can be slow to show enthusiasm and quick to ask for data. Astrologers split on whether that reads as cold or simply reserved. The gift is staying power when a cause stops being fashionable.

Bill Gates’s Human Design type

In plain EnglishHuman Design is a 1987 system, not science. It reads the same birth moment as a map of how energy works for one person, and it starts with one of five types.

In Human Design, a 4/6 profile pairs the network builder with a life said to run in stages. Microsoft’s start with Paul Allen, the years of industry deals, and the 2008 move away from day-to-day work toward the foundation fit that outline. As a Generator with Sacral authority, he is built to answer what shows up with a gut yes or no, rather than push from a blank page. Teachers disagree on how to read the 6 line’s stages, so treat the match as a loose one.

Bill Gates is a Generator. The strategy for that type is “to respond”. The authority is Sacral, which is the part of the chart Human Design says to trust for decisions. The 4/6 profile is the personality role: the first number is the conscious line, the second the unconscious one. Four of the nine centers are defined, joined by two channels.

How reliable is this chart?

In plain Englishthe Sun and Moon signs of any chart are only as good as the date, and the Rising sign is only as good as the birth time.

Rodden rating: A. Rodden ratings are the grades astrologers use for birth data, from AA (best) down to DD (worst). A means the time was reported by the person or by someone close to them, from memory, with no document seen. That is usually good, because birth times are hard to forget, but it is not verified. Treat the Sun, Moon and Rising sign as likely, and take the houses with a small grain of salt. The source is the Astro-Databank entry linked in the facts table.

A quick test with our own calculator: the Rising sign stays Cancer from 130 minutes before to 15 minutes after the listed time, and the Human Design type, authority and profile hold from at least three hours before to 128 minutes after the listed time.
