Human Design gate
Human Design Gate 50: The Cauldron
Gate 50 is one of the seven gates in the Spleen center in Human Design, and Twelve Houses calls it The Cauldron. It sits at 26°23′ Libra to 2°00′ Scorpio and connects to gate 27 in the Sacral through channel 27-50.
What gate 50 is
In plain EnglishGate 50 is the household or team member who keeps the shared rules in mind.
On the Human Design wheel (1987, not science), gate 50 starts at 26°23′ Libra and ends at 2°00′ Scorpio, so it crosses a sign border. Its center is the Spleen center, tied to instinct and a feel for what is safe.
Twelve Houses calls it The Cauldron. In a shared house, one person is always quietly asking if the arrangement is fair, and who is looking after whom. The pot on the stove holds what feeds everyone, so somebody has to watch it.
When gate 50 is defined
In plain EnglishHaving gate 50 defined means you carry a standing sense of responsibility for the group’s values. It can come from two sources. Your birth moment sets the conscious, black side. A point about 88 days earlier sets the unconscious, red side, which others tend to see first, as a seriousness about standards that you never mention.
On a Tuesday at work, you are the colleague who remembers that the team agreed to rotate the dull tasks, and who notices when it stops happening. With friends, you check that the quiet one got a say in the plan. You hold a map of who owes whom what, and of what the group once promised itself.
The gift is real responsibility to the group, the kind that keeps a household or team running. The trap is nagging, or carrying everyone’s rules alone. Others can start to hear a reminder as a scolding, and you can end up as the only person minding the pot.
Consider the group chat where someone proposes a weekly cleaning chart and everyone shrugs. The defined person keeps the chart alive for months, remembering who skipped and who covered. The work is real, and so is the weariness it can bring.
When gate 50 is open
In plain EnglishAn open gate 50 means you hold no standing duty over group rules, and you take your cue from the people around you.
The system says that with this gate unlit, your sense of what a group owes itself changes with the setting. In a house with strong rules you follow them gladly. In a loose crowd you may drift along, and you do not feel a pull to tidy up the norms.
The gift is that you can enter any group without a rulebook of your own. The trap is absorbing a group’s habits without asking whether they serve you. When a custom bothers you, ask whether it is yours or the room’s.
The six lines of gate 50
In plain EnglishSix lines give six ways of tending a shared pot, from the careful measurer to the patient elder.
Opinions on lines differ across the Human Design world. Here is how we read each one for this particular gate.
- Line 1: The fundamentals keeper. You insist on the basics being right, such as a clear budget, a clean kitchen, a fair sign-up sheet.
- Line 2: The born steward. You hold the group’s values easily and sometimes forget others do not.
- Line 3: The rule-tester. You try a policy, see it fail, and reshape it, so your idea of fairness gets better through error.
- Line 4: The glue. You look after the rules through your friendships, and the group trusts you because you are kind.
- Line 5: The authority people ask. A family or team treats you as the judge of what is fair, whether you wanted that role or not.
- Line 6: The elder of the table. You step back from daily arguments, then offer a steady view of what the group is for.
Channel 27-50 and gate 27
In plain EnglishCaring for a group’s rules runs through one gate in the Sacral, and the pair works like a contract.
The system labels channel 27-50 Preservation, and it ties this gate to gate 27 in the Sacral. Our own name for it is Care Contract. You cook for the household, check on the sick friend and remember the family rules. At work you protect the team’s standards.
With both gates active, the channel is defined and caring and rule-keeping run together. If only gate 50 is active, you hold the sense of what the group needs but may not have the built-in energy to feed it, so you rely on others to do the lifting.
Watch for two habits: giving so much that bitterness creeps in, and lecturing on the right way to do things once the cooking is finished. Say plainly that you want help with the washing up, and skip the sigh.
The Spleen center around it
In plain EnglishGate 50 lives in the center that the system trusts to say “this feels safe” without a reason attached.
Its neighbors there are 18, 28, 32, 44, 48 and 57. Gate 44 is a close relative: it senses who will fit a group, and gate 50 tends what the group stands for. The seven-gate overview is on the Spleen center page.
When the Sun is in gate 50
In plain EnglishLate October, just before the clocks and the costumes, is gate 50 time.
Expect the Sun in gate 50 from about October 20 to October 25 in 2027. Because UTC is the reference, a birth close to either edge might read differently in your own time zone. Inside the span, gate 50 is your conscious Sun gate, and the Human Design chart tool shows where.
